Josepha Miltony Martšuk , Managing Editor, Testlio

Where are you from?

I’m from Ahmedabad, India but I was actually born in Africa, in a country called Djibouti. The story behind that is that both my grandfather and father were working there – my grandfather was an Accountant in a shipping company called Mitchell Cotts and my Father was a manager at Marlboro. We moved back to India when I was 1 year old.

Besides my native tongue Gujarati, I also speak Hindi and English.

What is your educational background?

I completed High School in a commerce stream, then went on studying Computer Application. I took a small break in-between as I pursued a certification course in the field of Hacking and Security to become a Certified Ethical Hacker. Afterward, I joined a VoIP Telecom company for a year and after leaving the company I finally completed my Bachelor’s degree program as well.

How did you end up testing for Testlio?

After completing my Ethical Hacking certification course in 2014, I was looking for various job opportunities and my cousin pointed me in Testlio’s direction. I signed up and was soon invited to participate in projects. Unfortunately, I ended up not having much time for testing as I started working for the VoIP Telecom company – so for the next 2 years, I stayed inactive on the Testlio platform.

Later, when I went back to complete my Bachelor’s degree, I wanted to continue earning some money on the side and started testing. Now I’m working full time with Testlio 🙂

What are your specialties?

My specialties are functional testing, regression testing, and team management. As part of my daily routine, I like testing and playing around with different apps in Android, iOS and Web platforms.

How does Testlio’s pay compare to your market rate?

Testlio’s pay is very attractive compared to my market rate. Mainly because of: weekly payments, the ability to work at my own convenient time and no undue pressure. In Testlio, we earn what we have work for.

How do you manage the balance between testing and personal life?

I usually plan my schedule around the projects I’m involved with. Sometimes testing takes precedence, but my family and friends are very understanding.

What motivates you professionally?

Being appreciated for my hard work by my team members and colleagues is very rewarding to me. Recently, I became a Test Lead – this achievement motivates me to keep improving myself.

Of course, my family and friends are also my main support and motivation for success.

What’s something memorable that happened to you?

As a younger boy, I loved playing video games all day, so of course, my mom always scolded me for that. One time, my parents had to go away from home for a few hours, while my two older brothers were playing outside. Upon leaving, my parents had me lock the front door and left me the key so that I could unlock the door when my brothers came home.

As soon as they left, I changed the TV’s plugs with the video game plugs and for some reason put the home key behind the TV. I was happily lost to video games for a couple of hours when the bell suddenly rang. I thought it was my parents, so I quickly unplugged the video game, reconnected the TV, and went to the door. It was my brothers. But unfortunately, amidst all the excitement I totally forgot where I put the key. My brothers were pissed! They waited behind the door until my parents arrived, and when they did, they had no spare key with them. At this point, I was crying and extremely hungry too. So finally, they ended up breaking the door only to find the key behind the TV a bit later. I can tell you, everybody was furious with me and I got well punished!

What are some apps you like to use?

I use Chrome Remote desktop app to get remote access to my PC when I am not at home or not carrying my laptop with me. It’s easy and fast to use just like my laptop. Other than that, I like to use Amazon Prime Video and Netflix app to watch movies and Web Series.

How would you convince a friend to join Testlio?

I’ve actually already convinced my friends to Join Testlio and they are really happy to work here and participate in awesome projects with different testers from all around the world.
